16 photos, 300,000 victims, an indelible painful memory in the history of all mankind.

CCTV News:In October 2015, the Archives of Nanjing Massacre declared by China was officially listed in the Memory of the World by UNESCO, which also means that the Nanjing Massacre has become an indelible painful memory in the history of all mankind.

In the process of declaration, a group of little-known photos played an important role, which was called "the first criminal evidence of Jing Zi". In January 1938, Elly Romy, a 15-year-old photo studio apprentice, risked his life to keep 16 photos taken by the Japanese army that killed China people.

Yang Dongquan, former director of the National Archives Bureau, said that they took the photos themselves and then took them to a photo studio in Nanjing for development. A development worker in Nanjing photo studio was particularly resentful when he saw that they were killing Chinese, so he secretly left a set.

Elly Romy hid this photo on the beam of his home. After several twists and turns, it was collected by a young man named Wu Xuan. In 1946, Wu Xuan handed over the photo album that had been treasured for many years to the military war criminals court established by the Ministry of National Defense in Nanjing, and these photos also played an important role in the declaration process of the Nanjing Massacre Archives.

Rabe’s Diary is one of the most important and informative historical materials of the Nanjing Massacre. Its author, john rabe, and other international friends jointly established the "Nanjing Safe Zone" in Nanjing during the Nanjing Massacre, providing shelter for about 250,000 China civilians.

In the early morning of December 13th, 1937, Nanjing fell. Rabe wrote in his diary on December 14, 1937: "We didn’t know the extent of the damage until we drove through the city. Every time the car goes, it will run over the bodies. Those are the bodies of civilians. "

On December 17, 1937, the Japanese army held a ceremony to enter the city in Nanjing. On this day, the Japanese army committed more than 1000 rape crimes in Nanjing. They killed, set fire, raped and robbed, breaking through all the moral bottom lines of mankind.

On December 22, 1937, Rabe’s Diary — — "When cleaning up the safe area, we found that many civilians were shot and killed in the pond. Among them, there were 30 bodies in one pond, most of them had their hands tied, and some people had stones tied to their necks."

Wang Chunxiao, the editor and director of Nanjing Massacre in the Eyes of Foreigners, said that he kept a diary for 73 days from December 13, 1937, when the Japanese army entered Nanjing, until February 23, 1938, when he left Nanjing. In the face of massive evidence, the Nanjing Massacre Archives was finally officially listed in the Memory of the World Register by UNESCO. The painful history of the Nanjing Massacre has also become a part of the history recognized by the world.
